Founder’s Note
Dia dhuit, and welcome!
If you’re here, then you, like me, have a love for stories—the real, messy, heartbreaking, and triumphant stories that make up the rich tapestry of Ireland’s past. Ever since I was young, I’ve been captivated by the echoes of history that linger in our landscapes, our songs, and even the way we speak. Ireland isn’t just a place with a history—it is history, woven together through the lives of rebels and poets, warriors and dreamers, saints and scoundrels.
I started This Day in Irish History because I believe history isn’t just something that sits in dusty books or museum plaques. It’s alive. It shapes us in ways we don’t always notice, and it deserves to be told—not just in grand sweeping narratives, but in the small, everyday moments that changed the course of things. Maybe it was the signing of a treaty, the birth of a legend, or the quiet heroism of someone whose name never made the history books. Each day, there’s a story worth remembering.
So, whether you’re a proud Irish soul, someone tracing their roots, or just a history lover with a curious mind, I’m delighted you found your way here. May you find something that sparks your imagination, deepens your appreciation for the past, or just makes you say, “Well, I never knew that!”
Go raibh míle maith agat for being part of this journey. Here’s to many more days of history, and many more stories to tell.
Sláinte,
Raymond Welsh
